The average price of a Broadway ticket topped $100 for the first time this year, according to the Broadway League, a nonprofit industry association. Some 12.2 million theatergoers in the 2013-14 season typically paid $103.88 per seat, and many much more, an inflationary trend that NYC & Company, New York's tourism office, aims to relieve, at least temporarily, with Broadway Week.

Fall 2014 Broadway Week – technically two weeks – takes place Sept. 1 to 14, featuring 21 shows with two-for-one ticket pricing. Some include plays that will still be in previews, such as "You Can't Take it With You" starring James Earl Jones, "This is Our Youth" with Michael Cera and "The Country House" featuring Blythe Danner.

The roster of musicals includes the recent Tony winner for best musical, "A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder," 2013's best musical, "Kinky Boots," and long-running shows including "The Lion King" and "Wicked."

Information on shows and schedules will be announced on the website Monday with sales beginning Aug. 18. Blackout dates may apply and not all seats are on sale, though buyers may have the option to upgrade their seats.

Those better seats will sell for half-off plus $20.

The semi-annual Broadway Week takes place in winter and fall, and has sold more than 460,000 discounted tickets since starting out in January 2011.
