Peninsula Hotels, the Hong Kong-based luxury brand, enters Europe for the first time, with its 10th location scheduled to open in Paris this August.
The 200-room hotel will be situated in the heart of the 16th Arrondissement near the Arc de Triomphe and Avenue des Champs-Élysées in a late-19th-century classic French-style building that first opened in 1908 as the Hotel Majestic.
According to the general manager Nicolas Béliard, much of the work in getting the property ready has focused on restoring its historic aspects like the carved stone flowers, bows and ribbons on the facade and wood carvings and gold leafing on the interior.
"We used the same people who worked on heritage projects for the Louvre and the Palace of Versailles to preserve and bring back to life some of the original glory of the building," he said in an interview. "These traditional elements will be fused with public spaces and rooms that are more contemporary in style."
Amenities at the Peninsula Paris include six dining areas including a Chinese restaurant and rooftop bar, a swimming pool, a spa, two Rolls-Royces and two Mini Cooper Clubman vehicles to transport guests, and free movies and long-distance calls.
