High hotel prices are a fact of life in New York, but the third annual Hotel Week NYC can make the city a little more wallet friendly. From Jan. 3 to 12, 2014, 30 hotels in New York, many that charge more than $500 a night for room, will be offering fixed prices of a $100, $200 or $300 excluding taxes.
The participating properties, which have more than tripled from the first year, include the Thompson Lower East Side for $300 a night, the Maritime Hotel in Chelsea for $200, and the Gem hotels in Midtown West, Chelsea and SoHo for $100.
The hotel marketer Nancy J. Friedman started the event three years ago because of the dip in hotel occupancy rates in the city after the holidays. "I thought that this would be a way to counter the hibernation that happens after the New Year, and both the hotels and travelers wanting to visit New York get the benefit," she said.
