Giving earth science a Disney touch, the Dallas Arboretum will unveil its expansive Rory Meyers Children's Adventure Garden on Sept. 21.

The eight-acre, $62 million outdoor museum focuses on teaching children from preschool through middle school about the natural world. Interactive exhibits and habitats explore plant life, green energy sources, agriculture and ecosystem diversity.

Age-appropriate exhibits begin with a garden designed for infants and toddlers with plants they can touch, a tree house and hollow log kids can crawl through. A 15-foot-tall plant model demonstrates photosynthesis in an area devoted to kindergarteners through second graders.

Exhibits targeted to older children become more elaborate and detailed, including an elevated walk through a woodland canopy, a garden devoted to vegetables and grains, a stream table demonstrating erosion, a gallery focused on generating power from sun, water and wind sources, and an acre of wetland with a wildlife blind.
