In November, Intrepid Travel will begin two sailing trips to the's Myeik Archipelago of Burma, a little-explored area of roughly 800 islands in the Andaman Sea off the Malay Peninsula.
The island-hopping cruises will take place aboard an eight-passenger catamaran and promise visits to deserted islands, white-sand beaches, jungle hikes and meetings with the traditionally nomadic Moken people of Bo Cho Island who live on their boats. En route, passengers can snorkel remote reefs in areas known to attract hawksbill turtles and whale sharks.
Island overnights are in small shipboard berths aboard the yacht, which is piloted by a skipper and staffed by a cook. Offered through mid-April, the two nine-day itineraries follow a similar course in the islands, though one starts in Yangon and the other in Bangkok, each with flights to Ranong to meet the boat. Trips, including flights to and from Ranong, start at $2,060.
