As short-term bicycle rentals like Paris' Velib bikes expand in cities worldwide, navigating by bike has proposed a new set of challenges, including what's the least trafficked route between X and Y? Google Maps, which began providing bike directions in the United States and Canada in 2010 and in nine European countries in 2012, just expanded its bike route directions to seven additional countries in Europe, including Germany, France, Poland, Ireland, Luxembourg and Liechtenstein.
As with its driving directions, Google Maps offers turn by turn directions for cyclists seeking relatively bike-friendly routes from, say, the Louvre Museum to Montmartre.
